Maui Family YMCA Wildfire Relief Fund

Maui Family YMCA is mobilized and ready.  We understand the devastating impact that the Maui fires are having on our community and the urgent need for support. Our Wildfire Relief Fund has been established to provide assistance to those affected by wildfires and help rebuild their lives.

As an organization committed to serving the community, the Y remains open to everyone impacted by the fires. We understand that in times of crisis, basic necessities such as showers, internet access, and a safe space become crucial. That's why we have opened our doors to residents, offering them access to our facility at no cost.

Our mission goes beyond providing essential amenities. We recognize the importance of fostering a sense of normalcy and community during difficult times. Whether it's joining a class or program, participating in various activities, or connecting with others, we want to ensure that those affected by the fires have a place to find respite and support.

At the Y, we are expanding our hours and will be open 7 days a week as soon as staffing is in place.  Sundays will focus on programs - wellness, mental health, and water safety and music classes. We are also expanding our Kids Club hours to provide continuous childcare during our open hours.

With the expanded hours, we are adapting our fitness room and outside deck space to accommodate virtual office space. This work space gives residents access to laptop stations to check emails, complete assistance applications, and do homework while their children are enjoying socialization time in Kids Club.

In the first days of of the disaster, the Y provided immediate shelter at our facility for affected residents and first responders. This was a critical resource and thankfully residents were quickly transitioned to temporary housing.

The Y also immediately partnered with Project Camp, a national nonprofit specializing in child care during crises. For two weeks, we welcomed displaced children into our safe haven, providing them a nurturing environment where they could continue their education and find comfort amidst uncertainty until they were able to attend school.

We continue to pivot our resources as the situation evolves and new needs are identified.  The Y is working with other non profits, state and county agencies to open day camps and out-of-school/after school programs to provide much needed child care for students to engage in learning and enrichment activities along with physical activity and play.

Recovery will take a long time and the Y is committed to be there for our Maui ohana.  Maui Family YMCA is collaborating with state and county agencies as well as other nonprofits to look at the longer term and provide meaningful solutions.

Transparency and accountability are of utmost importance to us. We will provide regular updates on our website and social media channels to keep you informed about how your contributions are being utilized and the impact they are making.

Thank you for your compassion and generosity in supporting the Wildfire Relief Fund. Together, we can provide hope, assistance, and a path towards recovery for those affected by wildfires.
